The Beauty of Consignment (according to someone who’s built their whole life around it)

I’ve spent years surrounded by other people’s clothes, sorting them, pricing them, hanging them, enjoying them!
Other people’s clothes are basically my entire life at this point. And I often chew people’s ear off, on the many reasons I love the concept, so come on the journey with me while I narrow it down to my top 4:
1. making cash without doing the selling yourself (say goodbye to facebook marketplace messages and post-office-lines)
You know that growing pile of clothes sitting in the back of your wardrobe? The one you keep meaning to chuck online? … let us take it from here, sweetie!
Consignment means that our team does all the selling for you, while you get on with your life! And when it sells, you get paid (or you can use that credit to find clothing you love). Easy.
2. shopping more intentionally
There’s something refreshing about letting go of pieces that don’t feel like you anymore. It clears space (both physically and mentally) for clothes that actually work for your current style and season in life (not the one you had five trend cycles ago).
3. It’s one solution to textile waste
Consignment keeps good clothes in circulation. That’s just it. It’s a circular way to participate in fashion. Every pre-loved piece that gets re-homed is one less item in landfill.
You can even use consignment as a clothes-swap, by using your credit from sales to purchase pieces you love. It’s fun when you get to take clothes home without tapping your card (just use the bank of Nifty instead!).
4. It keeps things local
This part might me my favourite! Just about every piece that comes through our store has passed through the hands of people right here in Ōtautahi! Our team, our consignors, our customers. It’s like a little local ecosystem.
We especially love to see pieces that come in-store again, recognising them from years ago.
I often see pieces I sold at the markets 5-6 years ago, coming through the store! It’s one of the best feelings, seeing pieces you owned years ago still circulation!
So if your wardrobe is feeling a little heavy.. take this as your sign to pack a bag, pop into the big pink store, keep the cycle going!
Clothing accepted daily at our big pink store - no appointments needed. We’ll see you soon.
LOVE,
ROSIE XX
